CON: A Play About Liars

CON, 2011′s original summer theatrical extravaganza was an exploration of why people lie. The show intersected stories of famous con men and women with that of a company member’s personal story of family heartbreak & loss, after finding out that their father was a professional con man. The company conceived, wrote, rehearsed, designed and mounted the show in an extremely slim 4-week process at the historic Nugget movie theater in the center of town. Every actor in the four-person cast was asked to play multiple roles, wading through scenes of con history using the inspirations of vaudeville, Monty Python, modern movie trailers, clowning and monologue work. Our designer had to transform the movie theatre back into it’s vaudeville origins every night after the evening movie, and back again for the next day’s matinee.
