Internship

The What?

SquidShow Theatre currently accepts one college undergraduate level intern annually, to assist with duties surrounding the summer show. The intern is responsible for all aspects of stage management, media, postering, etc. Depending on a combination of individual skill, interest and initiative, the intern may take on the role of assistant director, as well as be asked to participate in company rehearsals, summer education programs and possibly perform.

The program is designed to serve as a bridge between undergraduate study and a professional career in company based ensemble theatre. We provide the kind of practical training and unique real-world experience that give our interns a true understanding of the many faces of devised company-based theatre.

The When & Where?

The internship will run roughly 5-weeks, from the final week in June to the first week in August. The intern is provided with housing in Telluride or nearby Mountain Village, a small stipend, and will be given assistance with finding seasonal employment, if necessary.

The Who?

An ideal intern should be ready to articulate why they want to work with the company, what they’re passionate about (both theatre and non-theatre related), and what unique attributes and contributions they will bring to the table. We may also ask questions about your training and your process.

The goal is not to impress us, but to give us a good sense of who you are. Your talent and training is equally important to your ability to work with an ensemble, willingness to be professional, and to trust the process. In short, we’re looking for people with whom we want to collaborate, live, laugh, work & make theatre.

If interested, please send/email a theatre resume, brief cover letter, & single letter of recommendation to:

INTERN ALUMNI

Luke Slattery (2011, CON), originally from Denver, Colorado, is a man among boys. In the unseasonably rainy summer of 2011, Luke travelled out to Telluride, Colorado, from Vassar College, to help the Squids devise and produce their 10th full-length production, CON: A play about liars. While here, he served as an assistant director to Jen Wineman on the production, and an assistant instructor to Colin Sullivan, in the summer kids class Squid Academy. Luke also saw a fair amount of live music at the Steaming Bean, rode in the 4th of July parade on a firetruck, served burgers at the Llama, hiked faster than anyone else, ate his weight in Tiger Milk bars, and exchanged words with Sylvie, the company Boston Terrier. For serious: This coming fall, Luke will be studying at The Moscow Art Theatre in Moscow, Russia. We wish him the world, and then some.
