About

MISSION

SquidShow Theatre creates exciting, challenging, original, professional theatrical productions integrating music, dance, art, and comedy at minimal costs for audience members. SquidShow’s perfomances are 100% accessibile to all audiences. Collaboration forms the core of our process, creating new plays and re-imagining existing texts. Our work is dedicated to high comedy, deep story and truth. At SquidShow we endeavor to surprise audiences with unconventional theatrics as a means to breathe life into our belief that great theatre lives in the moment of truthful human connection.

HISTORY

Started in the summer of 2007 by founder and artistic director Sasha Cucciniello, SquidShow Theatre is an innovative theatre company comprised of performers, musicians, writers and visual artists who live and work in Telluride, Colorado. The company was born out of a passion for original theatre and fusing it with art, dance, music and comedy. Since the beginning, the squids have been creating and performing original theatre in the mountains of Telluride.  As the years have passed, the company has grown to include associate artists and collaborators, coming to work in Telluride, informing and enhancing SquidShow’s professionally created theatre.

WHY THEATRE? WHY FREE?

We believe that art should be accessible to anyone and everyone. In a world where we are tied to our devices, constantly reminded to turn off our cell phones…truthful human connection goes a long way.  Creating art that is performed LIVE creates a synergy between audience, performer and piece. There is not a play without an audience.  There is not theatre without performers.  Our company is dedicated to train, grow and create for years to come in the unique landscape of Telluride, Colorado.  We are excited that we are able to offer our work to audiences for what they can pay.  In our pass-the-hat scenario patrons are invited to FREE theatre. Then at the end we ask for an offering of what they can pay.  From $0 – $5,000, we believe that theatre is a dialogue and not a commodity. By inviting the community to come participate in this dialogue, at whatever level they choose, it invites them to become a part of the conversation. And we truly believe the conversation started in a theatre can heal, educate and help to grow our community and our world.  We may be idealistic, but art can change lives.  And we find it difficult to put a value on a story.
